Don't worry. The moustache is fake.
Mason has participated in various team sports, including basketball, baseball, summer swim league, and soccer, but his first real passion was martial arts.  Mason achieved the rank of third degree black belt in Tae kwon doe  but by the age of eleven had discovered running through his school’s annual fitness mile.  He ran a 5:30 and was hooked.  He soon got his hands on a road bike and won a kid’s triathlon that summer.  Mason continued to improve his results, winning the under 15 division at the 2007 sprint triathlon national championships and taking second at junior elite (13-15) duathlon nationals in 2008.  Entering his freshman year of high school, he spent the fall focusing on cross country and balanced track with triathlons that spring.  After a disappointing sophmore cross country season which was hampered by fatigue and sickness, Mason has chosen to focus on multisport this spring.  He is racing for the Triangle Multisport-Inside Out Sports elite triathlon team.
